A Pro-Democracy Group, Kwara Must Change has commended the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for signing into law the political office gender composition bill which was recently passed the state house of assembly.
Addressing newsmen in Ilorin, the Convener of the group, Abdulrazaq Hamzat said the NGO is glad that the governor introduced tes law to institutionalize gender parity in the state, which according to it is an advancement of the advocacy by the organization.
Royal Times reports that the political office gender composition law mandates it on successive governments in Kwara State to ensure both male and female have a minimum of thirty-five per cent and maximum of sixty-five representation in government.
The NGO also commended the Kwara State House of Assembly, led by Right Honourable Yakubu Danladi for towing the courageous path of doing the right thing.
The kwara must change held the first Kwara Women Summit in the history of the state on May twenty seventh 2019, precisely 2 days before Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq took over government. He recalled that the first Kwara Women Summit released a communique which recommended and demanded for at least, 50% women cabinet positions in the state.
He explained that the purpose of KMC advocacy, before the formation of the new government in 2019 was to ensure that the issue of gender inclusion was placed at the forefront.
The NGO after achieving the gender equality, is currently advocating for public officials to have their children in public schools. He said the Kwara Must Change has begun the advocacy by paying a courtesy visit to the Honourable Commissioner for Tertiary Education, in person of Barrister Sulaiman Senior, where it made a case for the need for public officials to invest faith in public institutions.
