Nigeria’s Quadri Aruna has continued his progress to the quarterfinal stage of the men’s singles at the WTT Contender Budapest.
After narrowly edging out Austria’s Andreas Levenko in the first round, Aruna booked an easy passage to the last eight after beaten Frenchman Alexandre Robinot 3-1 (11-6, 11-4, 8-11, 11-4) to set up another explosive encounter against Swedish sensation Truls Moregard today in one of the quarterfinal ties of the competition.
In the first round (round of 32), Aruna almost suffered the prospect of facing an early exit too but the second seed ensured he did not meet the same fate as other headline acts such as Germany’s Ruwen Filius and Russia’s Yana Noskova when he relied on his vast experience to defeat 23-year-old Austrian Andreas Levenko. Aruna came back from 1-2 down, turning the match around in his favour to progress with a 3-2 (9-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-4, 11-8).
