Otun-Ekiti Youth Forum has raised alarm on the consequences of imposing or selecting a wrong candidate for the vacant stool of Oore of Mobaland by kingmakers in the ancient town.
The Chairman of Otun-Ekiti Youth Forum, Comrade Sunday Adebayo in a statement issued on Friday, said the Oracle has predicted imminent death of youths in Otun-Ekiti, if the kingmakers fail to follow due process in selection of a new king.
They expressed worry that lives of innocent youths who were not involved in the purported “faulty selection of Prince Adekunle Adeagbo might be in danger for the actions and inactions of selfish elements within and outside Otun-Ekiti.”
The Youth Forum noted that two out of the five kingmakers: Obanla, Chief James Odeniyi and Obajemu, Chief Akanni Atolagbe played active roles in the purported selection of Prince Adekunle Adeagbo as new king while Obaaro, Chief Sunday Olajide Asuribi refused to participate in the fault process, despite attending meeting held at Obanla’s residence as against Idi-egun.
They added that other traditional chiefs expected to monitor the process were sidelined.
The Youth said precedents in the ancient town indicate that noncompliance with traditions and customs once led to a One-day or short reign of the beneficiary.
According to the youths, In line with tradition and Otun-Ekiti 1961 Declaration, five kingmakers namely; Obanla, Obajemu, Obaaro, Obanurin and Obalotin are expected to meet, consult Ifa Oracle for determination of Oore at Idi-egun near Odo-Oja and subsequently present the selected candidate to the State Governor for ratification.
“The people of Otun-Ekiti in Moba local government area therefore urge Governor Kayode Fayemi not to honor any list from the shabby selection process and order for fresh one in full compliance with Otun Declaration, customs and tradition in the interest of peace and tranquility,” the statement read.
The forum stated that, although, all the seven Princes nominated by Ile-Iyaba Ruling House are eminently qualified, but insisted that kingmakers must follow due process to select the new Oore of Mobaland.
