As Kwara state ushers in a new government tomorrow, a call has gone to the incoming administration in the State not to marginalize the women folks in appointments and government activities.
The Deputy Rector, Kwara state Polytechnic, Ilorin, Dr (Mrs) Habibat Nike Adams made the call during her keynote address at the Kwara Women agenda and lifetime awards organized by Kwara Must Change, women wing, in Ilorin, the state capital.
Adams noted that the women had always played a vital role in all facets of the country and also in Kwara, citing their role in the struggle that gave birth to the incoming government as an instance.
She however urged the women folks too to remain united, prepare themselves for a great task ahead and ensure they distinguish themselves in any where they find themselves in the interest of women and the nation at large.
Also speaking, wife of the Governor-elect, Mrs Olufolake Abdulrasaq, who was represented by Dr Fatima Abdulrasaq, lauded the women folks for their unquantifiable role in the Kwara liberation struggle and assured that all will be done to ensure adequate representation of women in Governance in the incoming administration.
Convener, Hajia Mairo Eyitayo Mustapha who decried the age-long relegation of women despite their vital role, called for the need to educate the woman on her inherent qualities, and the need to put them in use.
The awardees at the event include Mrs Olufolake Abdulrasaq, Retired Justice Raliat Elelu, Senator Gbemisola Saraki, Alhaja Goroso Giwa, Saadat Modibbo Kawu, Alhaja Aisha Mohammed Lawal, wife of former Governor Mohammed Lawal among others.
