In response to the recent reports disclosed by the Debt Management Office that thirteen new state governors collectively borrowed over two hundred billion naira ,the Zamfara State government has denied borrowing from any domestic creditors.
A statement by the spokesperson of the Zamfara governor, Sulaiman Bala Idris, revealed that the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal never borrowed fourteen point twenty six billion naira with claims that the money was part of the proceeds from a twenty billion naira loan floated by the previous administration .
According to the DMO report, states such as Benue, Cross River, Katsina, Niger, Plateau, Rivers, Zamfara, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) secured one hundred and fifteen billion naira from domestic creditors.
However, Idris stressed that Zamfara State government has never applied for any domestic or external loans or approached the State Assembly or National Assembly for such a request.
In another event, Bandits on Tuesday attacked a mosque in Gusau, capital of Zamfara State, and kidnapped scores of worshippers.
It was learnt that the attack was carried out when Muslim faithful were observing the famous congregational prayer, Tahajjud.
