Wild jubilation erupted in Kano following the Supreme Court’s affirmation of Abba Kabir Yusuf as the duly elected Governor of the state.
A five-member panel of justices of the Supreme Court, on Friday, unanimously held that the lower court misunderstood the import of the purported deduction of 165,616 ballot papers in favour of Governor Yusuf.
The judgement read by Justice Inyang Okoro also held that the issue of Governor Yusuf’s membership was a pre-election matter.
As soon as the Apex court’s verdict was announced, thousands of supporters of Governor Abba’s party, the NNPP, trooped to major streets of the state capital in cars and motorcycles, singing the party’s slogans in celebration of the judgement.
Meanwhile, the affirmed Governor Abba Yusuf have also expressed excitement and gratitude for a fair judgement passed by the Supreme Court.
