The Kwara State House of Assembly, in a significant move towards enhancing water supply and sanitation services in rural areas, introduced the Kwara State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (Amendment) Bill, 2023, designated as KWHAB 8.
The bill, aimed at amending the existing Kwara State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency Law CAP. K48 of Laws of Kwara State, successfully passed through the First Reading during Tuesday’s session.
The initiation of the bill was set in motion by Hon. Bello Yinusa Oniboki (Afon), who moved a motion for the Bill to be read for the first time. This motion received unanimous support as it was seconded by Hon. Abolarin Ganiyu Gabriel (Ekiti), reflecting a collective commitment among the members of the House to address and improve rural water supply and sanitation services in the state.
Following the successful motion, the Clerk to the House was directed to read the Kwara State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (Amendment) Bill, 2023, for the first time.
Next, the Clerk was directed by the Speaker, Hon. Salihu Yakubu-Danladi to circulate copies of the bill to all Honourable Members, facilitating their review and preparation for the Second Reading, where a more detailed examination and debate on the proposed amendments will take place.
According to a release by the assembly on Tuesday, “A Law to amend the Kwara State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency Law CAP. K48 of Laws of Kwara State passed through the First Reading after Hon. Bello Yinusa Oniboki (Afon) moved a motion for the Bill to be read the first time and seconded by Hon. Abolarin Ganiyu Gabriel (Ekiti).”
“The Clerk to the House was thereafter directed to read the Bill the first time and circulate copies to all the Honourable Members in preparation for the Second Reading.”
