The United Nation’s highest court, on Monday, is holding historic hearings into Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territories since 1967.
The International Court of Justice in The Hague will hear from 52 countries and three organisations on the legal consequences of Israel’s occupation of the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem.
During the hearing, Palestinian Foreign Minister, Riyad al-Maliki in his statement said 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza, half of them children, are besieged, starved and displaced as more than 3.5 million Palestinians in West Bank, including East Jerusalem, are subjected to colonisation of their territory and the racist violence that enables it.
Al-Maliki adds that 1.7 million Palestinians in Israel are treated as second-class citizens in their ancestral land.
The UN enshrined in its charter the right of all peoples to self-determination and pledges to rid the world of colonialism and apartheid. Yet, for decades Palestinians have been denied this right.
