The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has reportedly disclosed that a total of N5.6 billion has been recovered from lawmakers, contractors, and other stakeholders involved in fraudulent practices related to constituency projects.
Under the phase five of its ongoing tracking of constituency projects initiated by federal lawmakers, the ICPC has intensified investigations into 50 contractors, consultants, and staff members of various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of the government.
The report shared by the anti-corruption agency on its verified account detailed the investigation into fraudulent procurement practices concerning the Zonal Intervention Projects (ZIPs), commonly known as constituency projects, executed under the 2019, 2020, and 2021 budget years during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
During the exercise, approximately 200 bank accounts linked to illegal activities concerning the projects were frozen, alongside the recovery of over N5.6 billion as cumulative savings for the Federal Government. Among those investigated and detained are legislators, staff of executing agencies, contractors, and consultants.
