The former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, vehemently denied allegations of involvement in a purported fraudulent payment of $6.2 million to foreign election monitoring observers.
As reported by Dailytrust, Mustapha, alongside former President Muhammadu Buhari, absolved themselves of any wrongdoing during a session held in Abuja on Tuesday.
During the trial of former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor Godwin Ifeanyi Emefiele at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Mustapha refuted claims surrounding letters allegedly authored by Buhari and himself. He contended that the letters, which purportedly sanctioned the payments, were fraudulent and not issued by their respective offices.
Mustapha clarified that the individual, Jubrin Abubakar, reported to have received the $6.2 million in cash under Emefiele’s supervision on February 8, 2023, was neither affiliated with the Office of the SGF nor known to him.
In dismantling the authenticity of the letters, Mustapha pointed out discrepancies, emphasizing that the format and content failed to adhere to standard protocols observed in official correspondences from the Presidency and the SGF office.
