The Archbishop of Enugu Anglican Ecclesiastical Province, Most Rev. Emmanuel Chukwuma, has urged the 10th National Assembly to amend the Electoral Act to ensure election petitions are concluded before the inauguration of winners.
He believes election petitions often distract political leaders and divert their focus from delivering democratic dividends to the people.
The cleric spoke yesterday at the third session of the 18th Synod of the Diocese of Enugu at the Cathedral Church of the Good Shepherd, Independence Layout, Enugu.
He argued that concluding election petitions before the inauguration of presidents, governors and other officials would help to uphold the integrity of the electoral system.
