In a swift response to the political earthquake in Rivers State, Governor Sim Fubara has called for an emergency meeting with members of the State Executive Council following reports that twenty-seven lawmakers in the House of Assembly have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The unexpected mass defection occurred during Monday’s legislative session at the Assembly complex, shaking the political landscape in the state.
Out of the thirty-two members of the House, four are reportedly still aligned with Governor Siminialayi Fubara, while the remaining lawmakers have declared their loyalty to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike.
The lawmakers who defected were seen proudly displaying the flags of the APC in a group photograph after the sitting, signaling a significant shift in the political dynamics within the state.
Governor Fubara’s decision to convene an emergency meeting with the State Executive Council underscores the gravity of the situation and the need for immediate strategic responses.
