The 3-year transition plan proposed by Niger Republic’s military junta has been rejected by the Economic Community of West African States, (ECOWAS).
It could be recalled that the coup leader, General Abdourahamane Tchiani, on Saturday had a meeting with an ECOWAS delegation, led by General Abadulsalami Abubakar, in Niamey, promising the military government would return Niger Republic to democracy in three years.
However, ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Abdel-Fatau Musah has stated that the proposal was unacceptable to ECOWAS, setting the ground for a military operation.
Meanwhile, thousands of Nigeriens flooded the streets on Sunday, declaring support for the military junta.
