The chairman of Association of Resident Doctor university of ilorin teaching hospital UITH , Dr ijaya Mubarak has called on federal government to look into the demand of the resident Doctors in Nigeria.
Doctor Ijaya who made the call while speaking with our senior correspondent olarotimi oshin on the ongoing strike in which resident doctors at the UITH also joined the national body of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors in the strike.
It is recalled that the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors had earlier declared a five-day warning strike following what it described as failure of the Federal Government to meet its demands. The strike commenced yesterday and will end Monday, May 22 by 8am.
The doctors are demanding an immediate increment in the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure to the tune of 200 per cent of the current gross salaries of doctors.
Meanwhile , the minister of labour and employment Chris Ngige has threatened the Doctor that no work , no pay will apply even as some Nigerians have warned the minister not the treat the Doctors the way it handled ASUU strike.
Some respondents in an interview with Royal FM noted that there may be a surge in casualty rate should the federal government mismanage the issue.
Medical services have paralysed in government teaching hospitals and federal medical centers across the country as the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors began its five-day warning strike.
