The Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has set up a seven-man committee to organize a rally in solidarity with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) over the lingering industrial action in the nation’s educational institutions.
The state NLC Chairman, Comrade Aliyu Issa Ore, who inaugurated the committee in Ilorin, urged it to plan and organize a hitch free rally slated for 26 and 27 of July 2022.
Ore said the proposed rally was sequel to a directive from the National Headquarters of NLC requesting its state councils nationwide to embark on mega rally for federal government to yield to the demand of the striking academic staff and workers of the higher institutions of learning.
Royal Times recalls that ASUU began its strike action February 14th this year while other unions also followed suit due to the failure of the federal government to honor the previous agreements reached with them.
