An advice has gone to founders of Qur’anic schools to modernize the teaching method of Islamic studies, popularly known as Ile-kewu.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony of the Mufti Khidir Apaokagi Institute of Arabic and Islamic studies, Gaa-saka, the former Grand-khadi, Sharia Court of Appeal, Justice Idris Abdulahi Haroon, who made the call, urged proprietors and authorities of Qur’anic schools to put an end to corporal punishment.
He urged them to treat their students with caution by not maltreating them.
Justice Idris Haroon said such archaic method of teaching is enough to serve as barrier and scare children away from attending Qur’anic schools known as “Ile-kewu.”
He urged teachers to be methodic in their teachings by studying their students, just as he explained that the assimilation capacity of pupils differ.
He commended the founder of Mufti Khidir Apaokagi Institute of Arabic and Islamic Studies Institute, Dr Ridwan Apaokagi a medical doctor for establishing an institution with the sole aim of raising offsprings who havve the fear of God.
Alhaja Sherifat Alabi nee Apaokagi, urged parents to support the girl-child who has interest in Arabic studies,.
She said such education will no doubt help them become women of good character in future and help them behave in the way of God.
In his speech Mustapha Biodun Apaogagi urged parents to combine Qur’anic school with conventional ones, noting that the Quran will help the children to act and behave well in the society.
Speaking at the event , the founder of the institute, Dr Ridwan Apaokagi, said many kids have interest in Qur’anic schools but are looking for modernized ones, a measure he said prompted him to create to institute in order to lure children away from social vices and other bad behaviour.
