The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) on Sunday, September 20, unveiled the new kit that will be used by the Super Eagles and the Super Falcons for the year 2020 to 2022. Super Eagles of Nigeria are looking forward to their next friendly games in October and also 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
It’s a little toned down from the 2018 offering, but still has that balance between retro and traditional African design, and could end up giving the beloved Naija jersey a run for its money.
Nike say the design was inspired by traditional Nigerian fabric patterns, and also said they are doing away with template designs for national teams in favour of a more bespoke, hand-drawn efforts.
The Super Eagles are set to wear their dazzling new kits during their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign and at the 2022 World Cup.
A press release read: “In 2018, Naija changed the game with a collection for the ages that set a new standard for how Nike approaches federation design.
“In 2020, Nigeria picks up right where they left off with a home kit that fuses the traditional aesthetic of an agbada robe with modern football design.”
The home shirt is just one part of the Nigeria 2020 apparel collection, with a dark away kit also revealed and other items including a poncho (a poncho?!), vest, dress and more to come.
The new kits also feature the latest Nike NextGen VaporKnit template.
The designs for Korea and the United States’ news shirts were also revealed, and could be an indication of what’s in store for England as well as a number of Premier League teams – including Liverpool, whose deal with Nike will begin in the 2020/21 season.
