The Pro-Chancellor of Al-hikmah University Ilorin, Muhammed Abubakar, has called on the Federal Government to re-examine and review the legal instruments that currently exclude private universities from benefiting from TETFUND the way public universities do.
Abubakar made the call today at the eighth convocation ceremony of the University. He said it is becoming increasingly difficult for private individuals to continue to fund the establishment of universities or sustain them.
According to him, the call is hinged on the fact that private universities complement the public universities in providing higher education to Nigerian youths, contributes to the manpower needs of the country as well as to the nations’ revenue through payment of taxes
The Pro-Chancellor, who urged private universities to make their researches marketable and turn them into sources of internally generated revenue, also stressed the need to prepare the students for the global market, saying that the school curricular should be radically reviewed to make them capable of addressing educational, economic, social and spiritual problems.
Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari who was conferred with a honourary doctorate degree by the institution, said education must be accorded the higest attention by all, as it not only instils discipline, but also values and sound ethos necessary for nation building.
The Vice chancellor of Al-Hikmah University, Professor Taofeek Ibrahim, while congratulating all graduates at the eighth-convocation ceremony, charged them to uphold the principles of excellence which has been impacted in them as student of the great institution. Al-hikmah University graduated eight hundred and seventy-six students all together.
