The Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, has denied reports that he is considering leaving the People’s Democratic Party, PDP. There were reports that the lawmaker was leaving the party following some decisions taken by the party’s leadership which were not in his favour.
Report also gathered that there was ill feeling after a former Governor of Anambra State Peter Obi was picked as the running mate to the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar without the consent of the party leadership in Ekweremadu’s region.
However, in a statement issued this morning, the Deputy Senate President who is currently out of the country, explained that he has received calls from various friends and political associates seeking clarification on the rumours. He said his path in politics remains in the hands of God and assured his supporters that he remains in the PDP.
The national leadership of the opposition party has also denied the reports, saying that there is nothing in the ruling party that could attract Ekweremadu into its fold. Instead of losing members, the PDP said aggrieved members of the APC will defect to the opposition party soon.
