British Prime Minister Theresa May’s Conservatives has signed a deal with Northern Ireland’s Democratic Unionist Party that will allow them to govern after losing their majority in a general election this month.
THE DUP t agreed to a £1billion deal to prop up Theresa May in power following more than two weeks of talks. The confidence and supply agreement between the Tories and Northern Irish unionists was completed at 10 Downing St just in time for the crunch vote on the Queen’s Speech on Thursday.
As a result of the deal, the Tories have promised to Maintain the “triple lock” on pensions and winter fuel payments for ALL pensioners, ditching manifesto promises to abolish them .He also agreed to Spend at least 2% of GDP on national defence, and extend the Armed Forces Covenant to Northern Ireland
meanwhile Northern Irish DUP leader Arlene Foster said she was “delighted” that a deal had been struck, while May said the Conservatives and the DUP “share many values” and Monday’s agreement was “a very good one”.The agreement was signed by senior Conservative official Gavin Williamson and senior DUP member Jeffrey Donaldson, as May and Foster looked on.
