The significance of zakat has again been brought to forebear as Muslim faithful were charged to give more to the needy as Zakat remains one of the five pillars of Islam.
These were the submissions of guest speakers at an event organized by Zakat and Sadaqat foundation to present items to support some residents in Kwara state in their various means of livelihood.
For the representative of Zakat and Sadaqat foundation Issa Oni who stood in for the Executive Director Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation Prince Suleyman Olagunju at the event, the faith-based organization has continued to disburse grants helping Muslim and non-Muslim beneficiaries across states in the country including the Federal capital territory, Abuja.
‘’With commencement of Zakat 6 years ago in Kwara state, we have been going yearly basis, when we started, we distributed nothing less than 1 million Naira but as of now we are distributing close to 10 million naira. The distribution cuts across empowerment, medical, education support, house rent, accommodation.’’
A quest speaker at the event Nasir Abdulquadri who clarified that the Religion Islam had nothing to do with poverty urged wealthy Muslims to invest in human and capital development of fellow Muslims. He urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of what has been given to them .
‘’Essence of Zakat is what we discussed today and the philosophy behind it is to eradicate poverty among Muslims and as long as we believe in this, there must be proper orientation for the receiver of Zakat so that they can know how to use it, nobody should put themselves in the position of perpetual receiver of Zakat ‘’
Some of the beneficiaries including Emiola Abdulwaris and Tawakat Abdulkareem who spoke with RoyalTimes at the event eulogized Zakat and Sadaqat foundation while promising to also positively impact on the lives of other Muslims.
Education grants, business capital, tricycle, medical interventions were among the zakat disbursed.
