We are not silent over detained journalists – Kwara NUJ

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State Council says it is doing all it can to prevail on the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Kwara State Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, to withdraw the petition against two of its members, Dare and Abdulrasheed Akogun who were invited, interrogated, arraigned and subsequently remanded at the Mandala Correctional Centre, Ilorin over an allegation of defamation against his principal and his person in their WhatsApp posts on a popular whatsapp platform.

A statement signed by the co-signed by the Union’s Chairman and Secretary ‘Lanre Ahmed and Comrade Omotayo Ayanda respectively seen by Royal Times  informed that though the issue that triggered the petition to the police and subsequent prosecution in court was painful and most unfortunate, the State Council of NUJ assured to explore all amicable settlement options with the ultimate hope that the matter be permanently laid to rest in no distant time.
