The Kwara state ministry of environment has advocated the planting of trees in the environment, saying trees help fights climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide and providing oxygen.
The commissioner for environment, Otunba Tunde Joseph stated this during a road walk organized by VICFOLD RECYCLERs, a recycling firm in Ilorin, in commemoration of this year’s world environment day. VICFOLD RECYCLERs gives voice to environment advocacy by promoting recycling through reward for waste initiative.
While commending VICFOLD RECYCLERS for the initiative and their effort to encourage sustainable living, the commissioner also encouraged people to organize litter pickups, not only in their neighborhoods, but in schools and community centers.
While commenting on this year’s theme tagged, “connect with nature” the CEO of VICFOLD RECYCLERs, Amusa Temitope Victor, urged residents to play their part in helping to clean the planet.
Participants during the road walk which kicked off from Post Office engaged in litter picking and environment advocacy to passersby and shop owners. The group eventually converged at Pake LGEA where a tree planting and beautification ceremony was held.
