Justices Adebayo Yusuf of the Kwara State High Court, Ilorin and Muhammed Sani of the Federal High Court sitting in Ilorin have convicted two siblings – Shekoni Kayode Taofeek and Shekoni Habeeb Damilare, alongside Adegbe Thankgod, for offences bordering on cybercrime and retention of proceeds of unlawful activities.
This was contained in a statement made available to Royal FM by the command Head, Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren.
Count two of the charges against Taofeek read that sometime between 13th January, 2022 and 22nd August, 2022 in Ilorin, had the sum of #14.6 million being part of the gross sum of #54.1 million deposited into his Bank account which is reasonably suspected to be unlawfully obtained.
While count one of the charges against Damilare read that between 30th March, 2022 to 23rd August, 2022 in Ilorin, knowingly had under his control, the gross sum of #2.5 million in his account which was said to be the proceeds of criminal conduct.
The defendants pleaded guilty to their respective charges when they were read to them.
Justice Yusuf, thereafter, convicted and sentenced Taofeek and Damilare to six months imprisonment each. While Taofeek’s sentence was without an option of fine, Damilare was given an option of fine of One Hundred Thousand Naira, while Thankgod was convicted and sentenced to three years imprisonment.
