Two female suicide bombers were shot dead on Sunday while attempting to attack a checkpoint in Maiduguri, Borno State capital.
According to a statement by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Victor Isuku, the suspected suicide bombers arrived at a police checkpoint at Geleri village at about 8.30pm and one of them detonated the IED strapped to her during interrogation, killing herself and the other suicide bomber whose IED vest did not explode.
Isulu said; “About 2030hrs yesterday, two female suicide bombers were halted to stop for a routine check at Geleri village, which is about 5km to Muna Garage on the outskirts of Maiduguri.
“One of the suicide bombers detonated an IED strapped to her body, killing her and her accomplice, whose IED vest did not explode. Three residents of the area were however injured, the command’s EOD unit rushed to the scene to render the unexploded IED safe,”.
