The venue for Naira Marley’s drive-through concert, Jabi Lake Mall has been sealed off by the FCT Ministerial Task Team on COVID-19.
Naira Marley who held a concert at the mall contrary to lock-down directives has been facing backlash on social media
Despite statement from the organiser that attendees were all in their cars parked 1.5 meters apart, the venue has been locked down.
Videos circulating social media show that a lot of people were at the concert. It also showed that they weren’t observing social distancing or wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs).
Play Network Africa, organisers of the event have debunked this saying, ‘As the organisers of this concert, we will like to share on behalf of all stakeholders and for the comfort of concerned citizens, the true events are not accurately represented by the videos making rounds.’
A tweet from the official handle for the task force says, ‘The FCT Ministerial Task Team on #COVID19 seals up Jabi Lake Mall indefinitely for violating Presidential Task Force’s directives on the ban on public gatherings as part of measures to contain the spread of the dreaded pandemic in the territory.’
Naira Marley and his team could possibly be arrested and prosecuted for breaking the lock-down order but as at the time of this report, that had not happened. The singer tweeted only minutes ago saying, ‘I can drop a song now and scatter everywhere.’
This is Naira Marley’s second lock-down infringement after he was arrested On April 6, 2020, for violating the lock-down rules by attending a house party organised by actress, Funke Akindele. He was released after tendering a written apology to the Lagos State Government and an undertaking that he would henceforth comply with the government’s stay-at-home and social distancing directives.
