Leaders of the All Progressives Congress in the South-South have demanded the position of the Senate President. They made the demand in a congratulatory message to President Muhammadu Buhari on his victory in the February 23 presidential election.
In a statement on Wednesday, the APC Vice-Chairman South-South, Ntufam Etta, said the zone deserves the position as it has worked hard towards stabilising the polity to ensure that business thrives in the region.
Etta said a Senate President from the South-South zone will stabilise the polity, focus on its statutory role of making laws as well as avoid unnecessary clashes with the executive as has been witnessed in the recent past.
Meanwhile, a group of northern youths under the auspices of the Pan African United Youth Development Network has expressed support towards the South-South’s demand, saying this should be done in the interest of equity and national interest.
President of the group, Habib Mohammed said in a statement that it will be politically lucrative to compensate the south south with the office of the Senate President and balance the political equation in the country considering their contribution to the development of the country.
