Shop owners Ilorin, the kwara state capital have called on the Management of Kwara State Internal Revenue Service KWIRS to reverse the Personal Income Tax and Trade permit fee which was recently charged them.
A cross section of shop owners who spoke with our correspondent olarotimi oshin lamented and disregarded the way and manner in which the staff on the KWIRS used their discretion in writing charges on papers given to them.
The traders who questioned the staff of KWRIS on the criteria used in coming up with the charges, said the staff used worth of their goods to determine their charges. A shop owner Mrs Labake who runs a printing business who was charged twenty thousand naira for 2016/2017; a business centre owner was charged six thousand naira for while beed maker was charged eight thousand naira among others for 2016.
Speaking with the Director of Admin of the Kwara state internal revenue service, Mr Olalekan Rotimi who described the criteria used by the staff of the KWRIS as “Best of Judgment Assessment” called on shop owners who are not comfortable with the fees to raise objection by visiting the kwara state internal revenue service office at number 27 Ahmadu bello way, Ilorin.
While explaining that the charge is reversible depending on the shop owners prove, the director of admin still insist that government has not introduce any new tax.
The KWIRS Director of admin said the informal sectors were previously charged one thousand five hundred naira in November in 2016 saying that the check carried out this year 2017 shows that many of the shop were not under informal sector, nothing that they shop owners did not pay the one thousand five hundred naira.
