The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kwara State, Engr. Kola Shittu has scored the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq government low, stating that the present administration cannot be compared to the sterling performance of former Governor Bukola Saraki and his predecessor, Abdulfatah Ahmed.
Shittu also said the PDP’s loss at the poll during 2019 general elections was not due to under-performance, but complacency and over confidence, just as he urged PDP members to learn from their mistakes and be more discipline.
Chief Kola Shittu stated this while fielding questions from members of Association of Kwara Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP) in his GRA, Ilorin Residence.
The Kwara State PDP Chairman said the former Senate President, Bukola Saraki who governed Kwara State from 2003 to 2011 implemented quality infrastructures in terms of roads, bridges, education, health and other areas.
“Bukola Saraki had a lot of vision to develop kwara state. He established the State University (Kwara State University, Malete). God used him to make it a reality. Initially we proposed Kwara Polytechnic as site but Saraki later suggested virgin land in Malete for the University. I (Kola Shittu) chose the Architect that designed the masterplan.
“He uplifted Ilorin International Airport to current standard and constructed roads across the three senatorial districts.
“His administration improved wellbeing of teachers and provided better office space for civil servants. The establishment of new GRA attracted kwara in diaspora to build houses at home.
“Bukola Saraki is quite influential and powerful. He has capacity and capability. He was a big boy in Lagos before becoming governor. Saraki renovated Government House and constructed Presidential Lodge.”
The PDP Chairman who served as Special Adviser on Infrastructure during Saraki’s days as governor, noted that AbdulFatah Ahmed administration also completed some of Saraki’s projects, introduced Youth Employment Scheme and Kwara State Internal Revenue Service, which other states now adopted as a template for revenue system.
The Offa-born politician however said that the present administration is not doing well and has performed below expectation.
According to him, the governor has no experience in governance.
He said “The ruling party is having crisis. The governor has weaken the party. APC is divided in Kwara state. I don’t see APC sorting out their problem in the nearest future. They are not following rule of law.
“I have a lot of respect for Abdulrazaq family. He is not handling things properly. You can’t give what you don’t have. His inexperience is not helping kwara. He should have better team of advisers. Listen to useful advice.”
The Offa born politician advised current administration not to trivialize governance which he said calls for experience and political influence.
”I thought we should have moved further, especially the educated ones. I am a civil engineer by training! The essence of western education is to let you reason on how to move things forward and not downplaying achievements of previous administrations.”
The PDP Chairman called on his party members to be friendly with the people and continue the development of the party.
“We need to contribute ideas, convince electorate why to vote for our party. They should In the 60s party members use to contribute for party development and gain power in order to benefit the people,” he said.
