Ronaldo, Messi make FIFA ‘The Best Men’s Player Nominees’ list

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk and Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo are among the nominees for FIFA’s The Best award for 2019, along with Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, organizers have announced.

FIFA’s The Best award is the governing body’s annual recognition of the best player of the previous season, previously called the FIFA World Player of the Year award until it was renamed the FIFA Ballon d’Or in 2010 and The Best in 2016.

Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp has been nominated for coach of the year alongside Manchester City’s Pep Guadiola, Tottenham’s Mauricio Pochettino and seven others.

Public voting for the awards is open via the FIFA website. Votes can be cast until Aug. 9. The Best awards will be held on Sept. 23 at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Italy.
