Rivers rerun: APC alerts security agencies to Wike’s ‘dangerous threats’

Rivers rerun: APC alerts security agencies to Wike’s ‘dangerous threats’

National leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has expressed concerns over what it described as the unguarded utterances by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State ahead of the National Assembly rerun elections in the state slated for March 19, 2016.APC

A statement signed yesterday by the National Secretary of the party, Mai Mala Buni, said it became necessary for the party to speak so that the attention of security agencies and other relevant bodies can be drawn to the dangerous threats by the governor ahead of the state’s rerun elections into the National Assembly and State House of Assembly.

Wike was recently reported to have reiterated his earlier assertion that any electoral official coming to the state with the intension of rigging the forthcoming poll must first prepare his or her Will.

Claiming that Wike has threatened civil servants in the state to either support and work for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, or face sack, Buni said, “The plot also include intimidation of eligible voters, INEC officials and security operatives deployed to ensure peaceful, free and credible rerun elections in Rivers state.”

He urged security agencies to be on high alert over the dangerous threats by the governor and by extension, the PDP in the lead-up to the Rivers re-run election, while also advising the governor and his party to tow the path of peaceful elections.

“The APC advises the Rivers State Governor and the PDP to grow out of its penchant for ‘do or die’ politics. We reiterate previous calls on the PDP to embrace the new Nigeria where elections are peaceful and votes of the people count.

“We call on INEC and security operatives to be mindful of the dangerous threats by the Rivers State Governor, the APC is confident in INEC and security agencies ability to deliver peaceful, free and credible supplementary election come March 19, 2016,” the statement added.
