The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) will meet today to review the
renegotiated Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) reached with the Federal government.
The body is expected to announce whether to halt or continue its
industrial action.
The resolution was reached at the end of the conciliation meeting held on Wednesday
through Thursday with the federal government’s negotiation team chaired by the
Minister of Labour and Employment Dr Chris Ngige.
At the meeting, the doctors insisted that their salaries shortfall worth thirty-point- four
billion naira must be paid before they call off the strike. The parties at the meeting
resolved that the nationwide industrial action should be suspended as soon as a
payment alert is received from the Central Bank of Nigeria yesterday.
However, as at yesterday evening, the spokesman of the association, Dr Charles Asinobi
said no payment has been made. A communiqué after Thursday’s meeting agreed that
another parley will hold on the second of November, 2017 to examine the other
demands of the association.
