Following the pressure from the House of Representatives on the delayed signing of Electoral Act, the Presidency has now explained the rationale behind the delay .
Presidential sources were quoted to have said President Muhammadu Buhari opted to be careful with signing the amendment bill to avoid a repeat of what he described as aprevious mistake made by the National Assembly.
It is recalled that the National Assembly reportedly failed to recognise themselves, the president, vice president, governors and other elected government officials as statutory delegates in the previous Electoral Act 2022.
It however usually the norms that the President before signing any bill seeks advice of all relevant agencies and has since sent the amendment bill to the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for legal advice.
