The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN has threatened to shut the nation’s oil sector over the dismissal of some of its members and gave the federal government a seven-day ultimatum to look into the matter.
PENGASSAN in a statement by its National PRO, Emmanuel Ojugbana, said the union would shut down the oil sector if in 7 days the employers in the industry failed to put an end to their anti-labour practices.
PENGASSAN also said despite agreement reached between the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, employers, and the two trade unions in the industry (PENGASSAN and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG), some employers still fired some of their workers including national officers of PENGASSAN.
