Following what they described as inadequate social amenities, residents of Sango/Elekoyangan Area in Ilorin, Kwara state capital today staged a protest, demanding improved power supply, good roads, and potable water supply in the area.
President of Oyun Student Union, Oluwaseun, who narrated the genesis of the incident to our correspondent Joseph Temitayo said the residents decided to make their lamentation public after power supply was disconnected from Sango community.
The protesters appealed to the State Government to liaise with the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company to find a solution to their demand.
However, Muhammed Tofunmi, a resident of Oyun Community informed that power failure in the community has stretched for two months, saying there are rumours that Kwara Poly students in the community are also planning to stage a protest over increment of school fees.
Meanwhile, the Management of Kwara Poly has debunked a rumour that the Polytechnic students are protesting along Sango/ Elekoyangan Area over electricity matter.
In the statement signed by the public relation officer of the polytechnic , Halimat Garba, the Management disclaimed the news about the Students, stating that the protest was staged by members of the neighbouring communities who are said to be protesting over power failure in their communities.
The polytechnic authority added that the Polytechnic Students are presently on break, as the institution is preparing to commence a new Academic Session.
