The Osun State Police command has announced the abduction and murder of Chief Oladepo Asaolu, the Babaloja of Ora-Igbomina, Oke-Ila in Ifedayo Local Government Area of Ọsun State.
In a statement by its spokeswoman, SP Yemisi OPALOLA, the command said the suspects were arrested after the son of the late chief reported the case of a missing person to the police.
The statement further revealed that police intelligence and investigation later led to the arrest of a motorcyclist named Sunday Johnson who conveyed the missing chief on the day he was last seen.
The police added that the arrested motorcyclist confessed that the chief had been killed and took the police to the forest where the victim’s body was dumped.
It also mentioned that the arrest of the Okada rider also led to the capture of three other persons who confessed to have been involved in the abduction and killing of the victim.
The command said that the suspects and the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Osogbo for further investigation.
Gunmen have disarmed policemen and killed a Chinese expatriate at a mining site in Iboko, Izzi local government area (LGA) of Ebonyi.
Chairman of Izzi LGA, Steve Emenike, described the killing as an “embarrassment” and added that the assailants came on motorbikes.
Mr. Emenike said the council had reconstituted a vigilante group and banned motorbikes operation between 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. in the area.
An eyewitness source who spoke in anonymity, said the gunmen disarmed the police operatives guarding the Chinese at the mining site.
