Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, has said that governor-elect, Emeka Ihedioha, has no constitutional powers to issue directives to banks when he has not yet been sworn in as governor.
While addressing journalists in Owerri on Thursday, the governor-elect had warned financial institutions against engaging in any illegal last-minute transaction with the outgoing government., stating that anybody who did so would be doing it at his or her own risk.
He also stated that he would set up a transition committee that would liaise with the outgoing government for detailed information on state of affairs in the state, especially as regards finances.
Okorocha, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary today however said the governor-elect was “behaving like a typical member of the Peoples Democratic Party;” and that he is “only interested in the state treasury.” Okorocha asked Ihedioha to exercise patience until May 29 before he starts issuing directives to banks on the state’s financial dealings.
