The Oba Isegun of Kwara State, Alhaji Muhammed Nuhu Gambari, has appealed to the state government to implement traditional herbal medicine policies in the state for seamless operation of alternative medicine practitioners.
He also called for the establishment of a management board to oversee the affairs of traditional herbalists and ensure that they conform to global standard in their mode of operation.
This was contained in a letter of reminder to the state government, which was also signed by the President, state branch of National Association of Medical Herbalists, Alhaji Adebayo Ikudaisi.
The letter was titled “Re-Request for implementation of traditional herbal medicine policies and establishment of a board to manage it in Kwara State”.
It said the plea for the implementation of the herbal medicine policies in the state was necessary in view of the establishment of similar governing boards in some States with sole mandate of regulating the affairs of traditional herbalists in their respective States.
Royal Times reports that the Oba Isegun and the association hailed the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, for his fatherly role and support to traditional herbalists in the state.
