The Chairperson, Nigeria League of Women Voters, NILOV, Mrs Folasade Aransiola, has enjoined different political groups to complement one another towards ensuring that female candidates emerge victorious in the 2023 General elections, not minding their political parties.
Aransiola charged women to be steadfast, united and focused, to ensure that there are female representatives in the coming 10th political session especially at the state house of assembly.
She made the charge while speaking at a training workshop for female political candidates on effective manifestoes towards the forthcoming elections.
The programme, held on Friday, June 17, 2022, in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, was organized by Nuhu Fatimoh Foundation, NUFAT, in collaboration with ActionAid Nigeria (AAN) under the Women Voice and Leadership Project (WVL).
Addressing the women political candidates, the speaker said the female candidates must work painstakingly to come out with good manifestoes that address the need of the constituency she wants to represent.
She also called for a vibrant campaign team and organization, holistic support from all available sectors of men counterpart as well as financial, social, psychological and emotional support.
Aransiola further advised the female political aspirants who have scaled through their different political primaries to honor and respect the confidence and mandate given to represent their respective parties.
She particularly stressed the need to study and understand their political parties’ constitutions and bye laws, which he said will serve as a guide in their political sojourn, and help them know the roles and responsibilities expected of them as members.
Participants who had time to ask questions and make observations, said NUFAT through its various sensitization programmes has encouraged them to go this far and made them better prepared for the task ahead.
The NUFAT CEO, Dr Ayinke Saka, appreciated the facilitator for the session just as she congratulated the female political flagbearers on their emergence after a vigorous and competitive process.
The former Commissioner who noted that the project was to guide, encourage and support the female contestants, wished them a resounding victory in the coming general elections.
