NSCDC laments high rate of illegal mining in kwara

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, says Kura community, under Yahsikira Emirate in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara state is faced with the highest rate of illegal mining in Nigeria.

The Kwara State Commandant of the corps, Mr Ideba Pedro, who made this known, said the community which shares boarder with Benin Republic has foreigners who, with the aid of some Nigerians, are operating illegal mining with sophisticated weapons.

Pedro made the assertions in Ilorin when he received the President of the KWARA Chamber of Commerce, Industry , Mines and Agriculture (KWACCIMA), Alhaji Ahmed Raji who, along with his executives, paid the corps an advocacy visit.

The commandant urges the state government, KWACCIMA and other authorities concerned to check the activities of unlicensed miners operating in the state particularly in the local government areas that share borders with neighbouring countries.

Earlier, the KWACCIMA president commended the NSCDC in the state for providing security for the people and their properties, noting that arrangement has begun by the chamber to organize a well-attended trade fair this year.
