Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr will make a host of recalls when the Super Eagles squad for next month’s 2018 World Cup qualifier against Cameroon is announced this week. According to the coach, veteran captain John Mikel Obi, who is back from a surgery-induced layoff, will be at the top of that list.
He will be joined by former Chelsea teammate Victor Moses, along with forward Odion Ighalo, who has hit fine scoring form in China. Defender Leon Balogun will return too.
Also expected back is much-maligned goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi, who bore the brunt of the popular blame in June’s Afcon qualifying loss to South Africa.
Nigeria will face Cameroon twice in the first week of September, and the matches are vital to the Super Eagles’ hopes of qualifying for the Russia showpiece.
