NGO marks girl-child day in kwara, as government advocates skill acquisition for girls

As part of celebration and commemorating this year international Day of the girl child , the State Government has said that there is need for girl child to be skillfully employed from home to school so as to be economically viable.

 

Speaking at the girl child day program organized by the “civil society action coalition on education for all” held at the state ministry of education, the State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Bilqis Oniyangi who said girl child will able to work on their own and employ others when they are guided on skill acquisition.

 

He charged, parents, government, civil societies to invest in girl child across the country in order to build a viable nation, noting that the roles of women in society cannot be quantified.

 

Speaking earlier, the coordinator of the civil society action coalition on education for all, Hajia Nimat Labaika who noted that the international day of the girl child was set aside to promote the rights and issues concerning gender inequalities faced by our girls. The theme for this year’s celebration was tagged “A skilled Girls Force”

 

While noting that females are the most abused, neglected, discriminated, disadvantaged, misunderstood and vulnerable gender, Hajia Labaika said there are still a lot of expectations from the government, community and other stakeholders.
