NCRI trains Kwara youths, women on Post Harvest Processing of Rice

The Executive Director of the National Cereals Research Institute, NCRI, Badeggi; Dr. Aliyu Umar, has  called on youths and women in Kwara Central Senatorial District to join their counterparts in other parts of Nigeria who are already generating sustainable incomes through entrepreneurship in Rice processing and sales of Value Addition products using some of the institute’s mandate crops.

The Executive Director made the call on Thursday while declaring open a three day intensive training program on Entrepreneurship in Post Harvest Processing of Rice and Development of some crop-based value added products organised by an Outstation of the institute located in Bacita in Kwara state.

Dr Umar who was represented at the event by the Bacita Head of station, Mumeen Yusuf also disclosed that NCRI has provided several processing and utilization technologies for rice and other crops which are easy to adopt by youths and women in order to be gainfully employed in accordance with the goal eight of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.

Some of the participants, lauded the initiative and expressed optimism that the training would help defeat joblessness, ease production process and earn them profitable decent income.

The Executive Director while thanking Senator Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe for providing the institute with the platform and funding for the training also admonished other public office holders to emulate the senator in facilitating such opportunities of sustainable livelihood for the teeming youths and women of the state.

Some of the participants at the training holding in Ilorin who spoke with newsmen, lauded the initiative and expressed optimism that the training would help defeat joblessness, ease production process and earn them profitable decent income.

The training is expected to end on Saturday. the eighth of February.
