As the Kwara state independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC) prepares for the forthcoming local government election, the People’s Democratic Party PDP has today called on the KWASIEC to ensure the usage of card reader machines in order to ensure credible election.
While speaking with our correspondent, the state PDP chairman Akogun Oyedepo who explained that Supreme Court has not for ones ruled out the usage of the card reader has claimed by the KWASIEC explained that the court only made judgment that the card reader machines is not compulsory according to Nigeria constitution.
According to Oyedepo, card reader machine remains the only way to ensure credible election, saying that current administration must fund KWASIEC effectively in order to make use of the card reader, nothing that no amount is too much to ensure good governance.
In his reaction to the new development, the sate PDP Publicity secretary, Alhaji buhari suleiman said the party is in support of Kwasiec decision of boycotting the use of card reader machines following the commission complains of malfunctioning of system and financial crisis.
While calling on kwara residents to troop-out on Election Day to vote for leaders of their choice, Suleiman charged the commission to ensure credible election which he said kwara has been known for.
It would be recalled that the kwasiec chairman, Doctor AbdukRahman Ajidagba has said the commission will not use the card reader machines for the conduct of the forthcoming election across the sixteen Local Government Councils.
