The Oodua People’s Congress has urged the President Muhammadu Buhari to heed the call of state governors and allow them to acquire sophisticated armory to counter bandits and terrorists in their states.
The group also urged the president to revisit and implement the resolutions of the National Conference of 2014, before handing over power in 2023.
According to a statement signed by the group’s general secretary, Bunmi Fasehun, the advice was given by the president, Otunba Wasiu Afolabi, in Lagos on Monday.
Afolabi stressed that denying governors these weapons appears that the Presidency is taking sides with the terrorists against law-abiding Nigerians, who are being kidnapped, raped, slaughtered and displaced into IDP camps.
