The Kwara State chapter of the Labour Party has urged security agencies in the state to ensure adequate protection for its gubernatorial candidate, Comrade Issa Aremu, following a threat to his life.
The party said it was taken aback that politicking was returning to the dark era where opposition figures were being targeted for attack because of their dissent on policies and issues.
The Chairman of Labour Party in the state, Comrade Abdulkareem Onagun, who stated this in an interview with Journalists in Ilorin, condemned the attempt on the life of the party’s governorship candidate. He warned that no evil must befall Comrade Issa Aremu in the build up to the forthcoming general elections.
The labour party chairman admonished politicians to be cautious and play politics according to the laid down rules and regulations. Onagun, who is also the state Chairman of Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), appealed to security agencies to accord candidates in the coming polls maximum protection against unprovoked and unwarranted attack.
It would be recalled that unknown assailants in the early hours of five days ago in Abuja made an attempt on the life of Comrade Issa Aremu, and had since reported the matter to the security agencies for appropriate action.
