The Chairman of the Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority, KWARTMA, Mr. Yekini
Bello has called on motorcycle operators to always use their helmet while riding on highways.
The Kwartma boss who made the call while featuring on a Royal FM programme said that
enforcement will be carried out if the riders refuse to comply with the simple traffic rules and
regulation.
Speaking on the recent crisis that broke out between the KWARTMA and hundreds of okada
riders in the state, Yekini attributed the development to lingering crisis between the Okada
unions in the state. He added that the okada riders usually have issues with KWARTMA
whenever they intent to change their leaders every four years which according to him as
nothing to do with KWARTMA. Cue in audio….Yekeni
It would be recalled that operators of commercial motorcycles popularly known as Okada,
recently staged a protest against alleged extortion of up to ten thousand naira fine by officers
of KWARTMA.
In his reaction to the allegations by the okada riders, Yekini said KWARTMA does not collect
such amount from Okada riders for fine but direct them to the state internal revenue service
to make payment when they are being fined for offence committed.
