In a bid to strengthen Parliamentary democracy and actualise autonomy for state legislature,the Kwara State House of Assembly has passed the bill seeking to amend provisions relating to the establishment of House of Assembly Service Commission into law.
The law empowers the Commission, to appoint Clerk to the House, among Directors, not below grade level 17 among others.
The Commission, according to the amended law, shall be composed of the Chairman and four other members, which will be nominated by the Speaker, in consultation with the principal officers, for the Governor to appoint. The Commission shall have four years, which can be renewed once.
The Speaker, Dr. Ali Ahmad, who praised members of the Committee under the leadership of Barrister Kamal Fagbemi, for working tirelessly, to ensure the passage of the bill, directed the Clerk of the House, Hajia Halimat Jummai Kperogi, to prepare clean copy for the Governor’s assent.
He expressed confidence that autonomy for the state legislature in the country, will go along way, to engender transparency, and accountability in governance.
