Kwara Residents Skeptical about Old Naira Notes, Banks Comply with Directives, while some shows happiness

Some residents of Ilorin as well as some filling stations in the the Kwara State capital, are still skeptical about enforcement of the supreme court’s judgment on the old naira notes even as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has, in a circular, declared that the old N200, N500 and N1000 notes remain legal tender until December 31, 2023 in compliance with the court’s order.

It was observed that banks complied to the order as bank customers now issued the old currency of N500 and 1000 notes to customers.

It was also however observed that while some residents had no problem collecting the old notes either from the banks or from customers, some filling station and  others have refused to accept the notes.

Our correspondent, olarotimi oshin said the name of the filling station will be mentioned in tomorrow’s Royal FM reports if they continue to reject the old notes.

The manger of the filling station who pleaded anonymity said he was waiting for the directive of his boss on the collection of the old notes adding that everything will be resolve before tomorrow.

Some residents, Mr Michael Adewumi, Mrs Deborah Olawale said they received the N500 and N100 notes from a commercial bank in Ilorin. They expressed joy on the development.
