kwara NUJ backtracks, reverse inauguration of new executive members of correspondents chapel

The kwara state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalist has reversed the inauguration of the new executive members of the correspondent chapel. A statement signed and made available to newsmen by council secretary Deacon Omotayo Ayanda informed that the reversal became necessary in view of unhealthy development within the chapel which is now assuming a dangerous dimension.

To this end, the council  directed the Olayowola Olanrewaju –led executive of the chapel to convene a congress and reconstitute a credential to midwife a fresh process of election.

It is recalled that the Correspondents’ chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Kwara state on Friday (26-7-19) inaugurated its new executive council with Alhaji Abiola Azeez of the Tribune newspapers emerging as chairman.

Other executive members inaugurated were Mr. Kehinde Akinpelu of the Daily  Times as the Vice Chairman, Alhaja Romoke W. Ahmad of the Daily Trust newspapers as the Treasurer, Mr. Kayode Abdulazeez of the Nigerian Pilot
newspapers as the Secretary and Miss Mosunmola Ayobami of the Western Post
as the Assistant Secretary.

However ,some members of the union said the Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)  called the bluff of the union’s President, Mr Chris Isiguzo and the Kwara state police command by illegally inaugurating executive members of the Correspondent Chapel against the directive of the two
authorities.

Some of the members also alleged that the council led by the Chairman, Abdulwahab Umar, defied the directive of Isiguzo-led national executive council who directed that a controversial planned election of the correspondents be
discontinued and an open arrangement which will be all inclusive be made.
